About Restaurant Saaga

Let me introduce you to Restaurant Saaga, a Finnish restaurant that feels instantly grounded in its surroundings the moment you step in. Located at Bulevardi 36 in the heart of Helsinki, Restaurant Saaga brings a calm, welcoming energy that fits naturally into the city’s food scene, while still standing out with its own personality. When I think about how to describe Restaurant Saaga, the first thing that comes to mind is how effortlessly it blends tradition with everyday comfort, making it a place you can visit casually or choose for something a bit more intentional. The vibe leans distinctly Finnish, with a relaxed atmosphere that encourages you to slow down, enjoy your time, and focus on what’s on the table as well as who you’re sharing it with. Whether you’re stopping by for a dine-in experience or opting for delivery on a quieter night, Restaurant Saaga keeps things flexible without losing its sense of identity. The menu offerings add to that balance, since you’ll find everything from coffee and vegetarian options to a well-rounded selection of alcohol, including beer, wine, and spirits, which makes it easy to tailor your visit to the moment. Late-night food is also part of the appeal, especially for those evenings when Helsinki feels most alive and you’re not quite ready to head home. I also like how Restaurant Saaga caters to different group sizes and moods, thanks to features like a private dining room that works just as well for intimate gatherings as it does for small celebrations. Overall, Restaurant Saaga comes across as a place created for real people and real moments, where the focus stays on good food, easy conversation, and a welcoming setting that feels familiar yet thoughtfully put together.

Great location, nice arrangement inside, food delicious and my waitress was so polite and helpful. Def great place to go for reindeer. Price is worth every bite!

A gentleman who is a Helsinki local whom I met while on a plane recommended this restaurant to me. I was blown away by the quality of the dishes and the unique flavors of the food. The butter fried pancakes were so delicious that we ordered a second serving. The service was just as excellent as the food. I highly recommend dining at this cozy restaurant.

Such a lovely Finnish meal at Saaga. We were pleasantly surprised by the Christmas Menu, which consisted of an appetiser buffet, a set main course, and a dessert buffet. We couldn’t believe our luck! The appetisers were so fresh and delicious (salmon, brined herring, canapes and salads) and the malted pumpkin bread with whipped butter was amazing. We had stewed reindeer with mash and lingonberries for main, which was delightful and hearty. The dessert buffet did not disappoint - a standout lingonberry crumble (wow!) and an apple pie cinnamon bun tiramisu - dessert of dreams! Plus cheese, teas and coffees. Quite pricey, but considering the buffets were unlimited, we’d say it was worth it. We booked a table same day.

A beautifully designed restaurant with a strong Finnish character. From skis on the walls to fishing nets as décor, everything is arranged so tastefully and stylishly that just being inside already feels like an experience. We tried the Campfire Feast ( skewered reindeer fawn sirloin, reindeer sausage, fire-baked potato, onion compote, and a butter sauce) The flavors were excellent – the meat was very tender and carefully prepared, with sauces that matched perfectly. The only thing that left me a bit disappointed was the portion size, which I expected to be larger. I also ordered the house Finnish berry wine and absolutely loved it. If you enjoy slightly sweet wines, I highly recommend giving it a try. So, for two people, our total bill came to €120 (including tips and a 15% discount we had). It’s definitely on the expensive side, but considering the atmosphere and the chance to try authentic Finnish cuisine, I would still say it’s worth visiting at least once when you’re in Helsinki. Judging by how many guests were there, the place is clearly popular and well appreciated. Pros: stylish interior, authentic Finnish atmosphere, delicious food, excellent berry wine, friendly vibe. Cons: small portion sizes, high prices.

Nice place where we came to try bear meat which is not so common. We had traditional salmon soup with bread basket, bear meat and reindeer steaks with reindeer sausage. All food was tasty, waiter was patient :-)

Absolutely delicious. We were here for the Christmas menu. The appetizers were all very tasty, the main dish (reindeer) and the desserts were great. Very authentic Finnish meals with lovely service and comfy atmosphere.

Lovely restaurant with traditional Finnish cuisine. Food was absolutely delicious, best we have had in Finland. In particular would recommend the Elk meatballs. Atmosphere was great, quiet and relaxed but with a good amount of ambiance. Decor was very tasteful with the antlers and nice lighting. The wait staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and polite. Very happy to tell you what was in each dish. It is pricey, but not more than other similar places in Helsinki, and quality was good. Will be coming back next time I'm in town.
